The long staff is one of the most commonly used and conventional weapons of Shaolin monks and soldiers. The Shaolin staff is not only regarded as the "ancestor of all weapons", but also referred to as the "ancestor of all arts". In the history of the origin and development of Shaolin Wushu, the Shaolin baton has played a decisive role. Through coordination and self-conquest in combat training, the stick technique is not trained for combat and war, but for enlightenment in Buddhist philosophy. Combat training is meditation in motion.
