Schutz und Schmuck - Schwäbische Ofenwandplättle

They offered protection, but also decorated the houses of mostly wealthy farmers: The "Schwäbische Ofenwandplättle". With their sayings and pictures, they are very special witnesses to a past way of life. Here, the stove builders depicted people, plants and animals. But there are also funny, sometimes crude sayings and irreverent jokes, and a completely preserved wall in the kitchen of the Rural Museum, which once adorned the parlour of a rich farmer, shows just how imaginative and original these "Swabian stove wall plaques" are.

In addition to an exhibition on the subject of "Swabian stove wall tiles" and special guided tours, the local history association invites visitors to get creative themselves and paint tiles according to templates or their own imagination to take home with them. Or carve clothes pegs from hazelnut sticks. The offer on 7 July 2024 from 14:30 to 16:30 is mainly aimed at children and young people. Pre-registration is not required. Participation is free of charge and refreshments will also be provided. From 2 to 5 p.m. there will be coffee and cake in the museum, and from 6 p.m. the group "Sonja & Friends" will be playing in the Bäuerliches Museum.Sonja & Friends is a 4-piece music group that is primarily dedicated to challenging songs, but also funny and ironic songs. The spectrum is very broad and ranges from acoustic folk songs to international pop hits of the last 50 years to rock songs.

The event “Schutz und Schmuck - Schwäbische Ofenwandplättle” is organized on the occasion of the Ornamenta 2024 Lust Programme, corresponding to the theme Bad Databrunn. All Ornamenta Lust programmes are mainly German spoken but you are welcome to join.
